I did not see this on DKos today, but Louis Nelson over at Politico chronicled what could be the most ironic and revealing “quip” from Trump that I've yet seen. This guy doesn’t have a clue on so many levels. Here is Trump courting Evangelical pastors today:
And once I get in, I will do my thing that I do very well. And I figure it is probably, maybe the only way I'm going to get to heaven. So I better do a good job.

OK, so let’s take a look at this statement, because there’s a whole lot packed in there for the unpacking. One thing we know is that whether or not Trump believes in God and heaven, this kind of comment has got to be one of the dumbest things a candidate could say to woo Evangelical pastors. Given that Trump only makes statements that he believes are self serving, his attempt at self-deprecation falls flat when accompanied by his stated belief that reaching high political office would make him “better” in the eyes of these devout religious leaders. The Bible is filled with examples of how seeking fortune, fame, and power are the LAST things that would help someone “get to heaven.” Jesus himself was a humble servant, the antithesis of political ambition.
Aside from the gross tastelessness of joking that being elected President of the most powerful nation in the world would open those pearly gates to the Donald, his remarks today show just how awful even Trump himself thinks he is. The implication is that he has a “yuge” number of personal qualities, behaviors, wreckage, etc. that would make admission to heaven laughable.
Of course, Trump probably believes he can bullshit his way into favor with Evangelicals the same way he thinks he can with others. Whether or not you believe in a heaven, you have to admit that this is one seriously fucked-up individual, and he is worth every ounce of our energy to defeat.
Been a long time since I posted a diary; thank you for listening!
